New Growth Ministries Christian School has taken education in an exciting direction. While focusing on a college preparatory curriculum, the school also teaches students about other aspects of life that they will encounter once they graduate.
“We are very excited, we have a lot of good things happening,” said director Barbara Smith. “The students have a lot of energy and it’s a blessing to see them learn and grow.”
While teaching students material that will ease their transition into college level material, there is also a practical side to the material that will help students smoothly move into adulthood. Students learn how to manage finances, and prepare for life lessons such as budgeting and making responsible decisions.
The school is completely run and staffed by volunteers. The model has been very successful, having shown a steady growth.
The school is currently accepting applications for the next year, which will start on August 15, 2016. Children from pre-kindergarten through seniors are accepted, though the more years they can spend in the program the greater the results have been, according to Smith. Throughout the interview, she repeatedly references the emphasis on the process of learning

. She speaks of a greater understanding level among students, and the intent to transfer knowledge that goes beyond rote memorization or bullet points.
“Our desire is to help give children, the rigorous support and nurturing needed in order to thrive, and become successful learners,” Smith said in a written statement.
The dedication to the art of learning guarantees the pupils will acquire the skill of teaching themselves and getting the most out of classes and life lessons of the future. This approach is highly praised in comparison with questionable public school programs that favor teaching to tests rather than teaching the actual skill of learning and looking at information from a more balanced perspective.
All donations are put directly towards the learning of the students, and Smith makes it clear that the school is appreciative of supporters. She urges the community to help them give hope to students who will further their education in the most competitive job market the country has ever seen, and try to climb to the top.
The school is also seeking teachers to volunteer and give their knowledge back to the community. Anyone who is interested should reach out to the school and apply. The value of such diverse and passionate teaching benefits the students and brings different possibilities to the programs that include vocational training.
The focus on student success in life gives them a solid foundation upon which they can build once they enter the world and take on some overwhelming responsibilities. Young adulthood brings many firsts with it, including employment and rent and credit. The more skills a young person possesses going into these experiences, the better they will fare and more energy can be invested in education or entry into their chosen profession.
