Kids: Your Summer Adventure Continues at the Library in July

To help fight the summer slump, take your kids to a Springfield-Greene County Library for a great slate of July performers. Be sure to pick up some books while there.

Powwow with the American Indian Center of Springfield
For all ages, join us at the Library Station on Tuesday, July 9, at 2 p.m. in the Frisco Room. Celebrate Native American culture by learning about the powwow. The American Indian Center of Springfield will present traditional dances that may be found at powwows and teach how Native American children participate in their heritage. Kids will have the chance to learn some dance steps from Powwow Princess Nizhoni Falcon while honoring the strong traditions of Native People.

Jay & Leslie’s Library Escapades
For preschool through grade 4, in the Library Center auditorium on Thursday, July 11, at 10 a.m. or the Willard Branch Library on Thursday, July 11, at 3 p.m. Jay and Leslie of Laughing Matters put their own spin on favorite fairy tales and stories, exploring what happened with Jack and the Giant and untangling the mysteries of Alice’s nonsensical poem from the looking glass. And, of course, Jay and Leslie will do some juggling – it’s bound to be an adventure.

The Spectacular Suitcase of Stupendous Stories
For preschool-grade 4 at the Republic Branch Library on Monday, July 15, 3:30 p.m.
Legend has it there’s a man called the Imagination Peddler who travels with a suitcase full of wonder and excitement, and he’s headed your way! Come together with StoneLion Puppet Theatre as the Imagination Peddler shares a spectacle of stories passed down through the ages, brought to life with a plethora of puppets.

The Little Red Hen’s Garden
For preschool-grade 4 at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch on Tuesday, July 16, 10 a.m. Tired of her dusty backyard, “The Little Red Hen” sets out to plant a garden, and she asks her neighbors to help. Enjoy a sustainable twist on a classic fairytale with StoneLion Puppet Theatre as they explore how community involvement, water quality, and healthy lifestyles can make the barnyard and our planet a better place.
