Meet the Library’s New Executive DirectorMeet Ed Walton, the newly appointed Springfield-Greene County Library District Executive Director, from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the Library Center auditorium. Ed will be available to answer questions and share information and graphics on the current construction projects at the Library Center, Midtown Carnegie Branch Library and Republic Branch Library.

A Monstrous Affair: An Interactive Story at the Library CenterAttention kids ages 6-18: Who will win the most horrifyingly, blood-curdling creature in the Monstrosity contest? Beginning the week of Friday, October 4, pick up the first part of the story, puzzle and clues to help you discover the scariest monster winner. Revisit each Friday for the next three weeks to collect the next three parts and their puzzles. You cannot collect them before the scheduled dates. Return your answer sheet during the final week of Friday, November 1, and pick up the story’s end and a special prize. The last day to collect your prize will be Friday, November 8.

Spooky Ozarks Stories, Lore and MoreFrom full-fledged tales to snippets of wisdom and lore, the Ozarks is full of unexpected and unusual stories that provide a sense of the region. Ozarks Alive’s Kaitlyn McConnell will explore some of these stories, such as madstones, water witching and famed names like Mountain Maid of Roaring River and The Wizard of Oto, as well as other tales that have captivated locals and those beyond the region’s confines for generations. Join us on Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m. in the Library Center auditorium as we kick off the Oh, The Horror! series.

Powwow with the American Indian Center of SpringfieldOn Friday, October 11, at 6 p.m., all ages can join us in the Library Center auditorium to celebrate Native American culture by learning about the powwow. The American Indian Center of Springfield will present traditional dances that may be found at powwows and how Native American children participate in their heritage. Kids will have the chance to learn some dance steps from Powwow Princess Nizhoni Falcon while honoring the strong traditions of Native People.
