The Downtown Springfield Association (DSA) are now accepting applications for the next round of ASCEND – Advancing Springfield’s Commitment to Entrepreneurship, Networking and Development. This strategic initiative supports small business growth in the heart of the city, with five $5,000 grants available for new or existing businesses with (or planning) a storefront location in Downtown Springfield.
Launched through a partnership between U.S. Bank Foundation, ASCEND connects entrepreneurs with the tools, resources and relationships they need to launch, grow and thrive.

- Financial literacy resources
- Mentorship opportunities
- Marketing guidance
- Curated networking events
- A complimentary one-year DSA membership
Recipients will receive a complimentary one-year membership to the Downtown Springfield Association and must commit to the following milestones and engagement to receive the $5,000 grant:
- One-on-one business consulting with the Missouri SBDC at MSU
- Meet with loan officers from U.S. Bank and the City of Springfield to explore financing
- Meet with DSA Staff to learn about leveraging DSA communications and how DSA can support their business
- Attend one DSA Mixer to connect with fellow downtown business owners and stakeholders
- Complete one of the following programs: Early-Stage Business Boot Camp program (Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 – 8 pm September 22 – October 16, 2025) and/or The Great Game of Business® – Basic Financial Literacy for Product-Based Businesses (October 16, 2025, 8:30am – 12:30pm) or The Great Game of Business® – Basic Financial Literacy for Service-Based Businesses (October 30, 2025, 1:00pm – 5:00pm) through the efactory and Missouri SBDC at MSU (offered at no-charge to the award recipient)
