George Foreman, a former two-time heavyweight boxing champion, is dead at 76, his family confirmed on Friday.

“Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones,” the family said in a statement shared on the boxing legend’s official Instagram page. “A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.”

Foreman won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 1968 Summer Olympics, later turning to professional boxing. In 1973, he won the world heavyweight title, defeating Joe Frazier. While defending his title in 1974, Foreman notably lost his first professional match to Muhammad Ali. Foreman later retired in 1977.

After his boxing career, Foreman launched a multimillion-dollar business with his iconic George Foreman grills. He reportedly sold more than 100 million units.
