On May 6th, Drury University held a heartfelt retirement celebration honoring Dr. Rosalyn Thomas, affectionately known as “Dr. Roz,” recognizing her remarkable career and lasting impact on the university community. Dr. Thomas, a proud alumna of Drury University, with degrees in education and a doctorate in Educational Leadership, dedicated over three decades to education, including 33 years with the Springfield Public Schools System and nearly a decade at Drury.
Throughout her tenure at Drury, Dr. Thomas served as Associate Dean of Diversity & Inclusion, where she played a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students. Her leadership and dedication to diversity initiatives have been widely praised by university officials and students alike. Before joining Drury, she was the first Minority Liaison in the Springfield school district, pioneering programs that supported diversity training and minority teacher recruitment in partnership with local universities.
The celebration was a vibrant testament to Dr. Thomas’s influence, filled with an outpouring of love and gratitude from colleagues, students, and community members who have been touched by her mentorship and advocacy. Known for her calm, resourceful, and impactful presence, Dr. Thomas has been a guiding light for many, championing equity and inclusion throughout her distinguished career.
On May 7, Springfield Public Schools honored Gwen Marshall with a heartfelt retirement celebration, marking the close of a remarkable chapter in local education. Known for her unwavering dedication, Gwen Marshall has served as the Coordinator for the Office of Student Access and Opportunity, where her work has focused on minimizing barriers and ensuring every student has the chance to succeed.
Throughout her tenure, Marshall championed programs that enhanced academic achievement, built community partnerships, and fostered a welcoming, inclusive environment for all students and families. Her leadership was instrumental in promoting engagement and belonging across the district, making her a beloved figure among colleagues and students alike.
Beyond her administrative role, Marshall’s influence extended into the broader Springfield community. She is recognized as the director of the annual Black History Summer Academy, a role in which she brought together students, educators, and families to honor cultural heritage and promote unity.
