Former NFL defensive tackle Steve Warren, whose football career took him from the University of Nebraska to the Green Bay Packers, has been named to the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
The 2026 class was announced May 12 during a press luncheon at Drury
University. Warren joins other
inductees representing a range of accomplishments in athletics, coaching and sports media.
Warren’s football career reached the professional level after an outstanding collegiate run at Nebraska, where he earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors in 1999. His performance helped establish him as a promising defensive talent, leading to his selection by the Green Bay Packers in the third round of the NFL Draft. He played for the Packers from 2000 to 2002.
His accomplishments also earned him recognition as a member of the
Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.
Beyond his playing career, Warren has continued to use his experience in football to help develop the next
generation of athletes. He founded D.R.E.A.M., which stands for
Developing Relationships through Education, Athletics and Mentoring, an initiative focused on supporting young people through sports, education and meaningful relationships.
His transition from professional athlete to coach and mentor reflects a commitment to making a lasting
difference beyond the playing field. Through his work with young athletes, Warren has extended the lessons of
discipline, preparation and teamwork into opportunities for personal growth and development.
Warren and the other members of the 2026 Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame class were formally inducted during the organization’s annual
banquet, presented by The Cook Family Foundation, on September 29 at the Oasis Convention Center in Springfield, Missouri.
The honor recognizes Warren’s achievements as a collegiate and
professional football player while
celebrating his continued contributions to coaching, athletic development and youth mentorship.
Individual inductees include soccer standout Ann Cook, media legend Scott Puryear, basketball coach Steve Hesser, coach Richard Clark, professional baseball player Jason Hart, coach and broadcast instructor Dave Davis, coaches Keith Guttin and Howard Bell, and outstanding football athlete
Steve Warren.
