Your local library is the best place to cool off on a hot summer day. We hope to see you throughout July! Library cards are free for all Greene County citizens. Stop by and pick one up today.
Visit the reopened Midtown Carnegie Branch Library. This branch, which had been closed since May 2024, now features a new, improved entrance with ramps and a functioning elevator. It also features new HVAC, ensuring a comfortable environment this summer.
It’s not too late to join the Summer Reading Program. There are many fun activities for kids and teens, along with reading challenges for books and prizes. Pick up a gameboard at any branch library or on the Mobile Library. Adults, if you read five books this summer and participate in several activities, you can also earn a great summer prize. To learn more and see the summer programs, pick up a Bookends magazine or visit thelibrary.org/summerreading.
Remember, free produce is available in the Community Fridge located at the Library Station. We plan to open a second Community Fridge at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library later this summer. If you have a garden, please consider donating your extra produce to assist us. To donate, download the Fresh Food Connect app to schedule a drop-off time at the Springfield Community Gardens. That produce will then be used to fill our Community Fridge. Produce donations will not be accepted at the Library. If you have questions, call 417-414-7129.
If you’re getting ready to make a purchase and want to see which product is best, the Springfield Greene County Library District provides free access to Consumer Reports. Visit thelibrary.org/databases to explore the various research databases that we offer at no cost to library cardholders.
Are you handy? We need your help! The Library District hosts quarterly Fix-It Fairs at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library. We are seeking volunteers who can diagnose and repair small items, including appliances, clothing and other mechanical devices. If you are interested in volunteering, please get in touch with Eva Pelkey at 417-616-0509 or evap@thelibrary.org.
For more information on these and other great programs, visit thelibrary.org. Vickie Hicks is the community relations director of the Springfield-Greene County Library District. She can be reached at vickieh@thelibrary.org.
