Unwrap These Great Library Programs in December

Make plans to attend these great December programs at your Library throughout December. For a full list of library programs, visit thelibrary.org.

Winter Book Buzz
Adults, The Library has all of your winter reading list needs covered! Join your local librarians as they share the buzz about new and upcoming titles, and snag some swag and Advance Reader Copies to add to your TBR (to be read) pile. Starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, at the 4 By 4 Brewing Company, 2811 E. Galloway St., Suite A.

Oh, the Horror! Presents: Ghost Stories for Christmas with Matt Godfrey
Join award-winning voice actor and audiobook narrator Matt Godfrey around the glow of the proverbial fireplace and take part in the Victorian tradition of sharing ghost stories at Christmastime, when some believed the veil between the living and spirit world was thinnest. Settle in with tea, cocoa and treats from Tea Bar & Bites as Godfrey performs two chilling modern ghost stories to keep this tradition alive. Join us at 7 p.m. on December 17 in the Library Center auditorium. Note: this program is for ages 18 and older. Registration starts December 3; visit thelibrary.org/programs or call 417-883-5341. This Oh, the Horror! event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

A Winter Romp Through the Stars
Some of the most beautiful star clusters, nebulae and galaxies are visible this time of year. Lane Pierce and members of the Springfield Astronomical Society will provide sky maps, teach you how to use binoculars to look around the winter sky and demonstrate several phone applications for stargazing. This event will start at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 9, in the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library Community Room.

Winter Wanderings
Kids: don’t stay inside all winter! Wander out to your favorite Library branch to explore books, toys, scavenger hunts, activities and programs of all kinds. Grab a Winter Wanderings booklet at any branch from December 1-February 28 to document your experience and get it stamped at each visit. Your third stamp will earn you a free book! For kids and teens, infants to age 18. One book per child/teen, but you can keep collecting stamps all winter long. Books must be picked up by February 28.
